Complete restoration of Hotel Europe in Engelberg
Grand Hotel of the Belle Epoque
Hotel Europe (Europäischer Hof), one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings of Engelberg and one of the last historic testimonies of the Belle Epoque, was run as a hotel as well as study center by the Schiller International University since the mid-1980s.
With RENOVATV’s team playing a leading role in the refurbishment measures, the building was continuously modernized and adapted to the guests’ demands. From the date of acquisition without any infrastructure up to its sale in 2012, the standards of a 4-star hotel could be achieved.
From 1990 until its sale in 2009, also the neighboring Hotel Bellevue was owned by the Schiller International University. Due to extensive renovation works and the contemporary adaptation of infrastructure in the building, the hotel business developed within a few years from a 2-star to a 3-star hotel.

Flood disaster in 2005
In August 2005, the town experienced a flood disaster of exceptional extent. Both hotels were significantly affected, especially Hotel Bellevue: the entire ground floor was flooded and completely destroyed by alluvial boulders and mudslides. Within only 14 weeks, i.e. until the start of the season, the facility had to be restored. Right with its beginning, the restaurant with kitchen, the utility rooms as well as the retail premises could take up their business again.
